Car and Auto Insurance Information

Looking for car insurance in the United States and Canada can be a bit like looking for a needle in a haystack.  Do you need fire and theft (comprehensive) if you are driving a 'beater', for instance, and how much liability insurance are you required to carry?  Practically all locations require that liability insurance is a must.  Are you a newly licensed driver, or an over-50 driver with a no-claim history of driving?  Do you want to add loss of income insurance to the auto insurance policy?  Can you?  The car insurance you will need is dictated by where you live, so you will need to contact the local motor vehicles agency, to make sure you have all that you are required to carry.  State to state, province to province, they all vary.  For example, in New Hampshire, in the United States, it is not mandatory for you to carry car insurance unless you fall into the category of a previous conviction that triggers a requirement.  However, they do prefer if you would carry liability anyway.

There are many good insurance companies or insurance brokers available, some online, and some local for you to walk in their front door and get an automobile insurance quote.   Either way, you will need to comparison shop for insurance, just like anything else that you buy.  Online is the easiest method, of course, but not everyone has a computer, even in this day and age.  Phone around and get at least four quotations from reliable insurance companies, then make your decisions based on their prices, their service, and their payout history, if you can find it.  We have known people who have been 'dumped' by their insurance company, with no history of any claims, but just because the insurance company felt 'they were due to have an accident'.  This is a company you should not deal with.

Research to determine which coverage is best for you, then look around for costs and various companies.  Always check out the company and the agent before purchasing.  Discrepancies between what you think you are getting and what you actually get coverage for, lead to complaints and time resolving them.  Remember - research, research and more research will get you the results you want. Ensure both the agent and the company are licensed in your state or province.

If you are over 50, most companies like AMA, CAA, CARP, AARP and the likes, have special pricing for you.  Again, compare these agencies and see what you like, or dislike, about the plans.  Perhaps you do not care whether the plan gives you a discount - and, if you do not like the service you have received - rightfully so.  Most plans are issued on a year to year basis, and the premiums will be quoted to you on that basis.  Also, you may be able to pay on a monthly basis with automatic bank deductions or credit card payments in some cases.  Make sure to do your automobile insurance comparisons to get the best deal.

Motorcycle insurance differs again from regular car insurance.  In most cases, you will require special licensing before you can get insurance at all.  Similar to when you first learned to drive a car, really and your tests will include safe handling of the bike and learning the rules that motorcycle riders must abide by.  Scooters are governed by the same rules as motorcycles in most cases.

This page is far from a comprehensive list of insurers or brokers but the ads that show up here will be useful information for you.  From Scottsdale auto insurance to auto insurance in Florida, for instance, some valuable information should come up by these referring ads.  If you are looking to compare your auto insurance quotations, please check out this ezine article by Brian Stevens, a previous insurance agent and a financial consultant.  Motor car insurance and insurance auto quotes should come up here also.
